Who put this thing here?

So, we have been in the Seattle area for 3 days now, and the weather has been cooperative, which is to say we have experienced clear, sunny days. Around these parts, people tend to ask the question: “Is the mountain out?” which means: can you see Mount Rainier?

If you look closely, you will see the tippy-top of Mount Rainier over the traffic signs. You might wonder what the big deal is, and why people ask the question about seeing the mountain until you realize that from the picture above, Mount Rainier is 70 some-odd miles away from us. You may be surprised to know that Mount Rainier has a topographic prominence of 13,211 ft, which is the vertical drop from the summit to the base elevation. That’s more than the world’s second tallest mountain, K2.

All in all, it is quite beautiful here, with plentiful greenery and trees even in densely populated city areas. Undoubtedly, the weather will turn more gray and we’ll see some more rain, but we got an 8 mile bike ride in today over some urban trails and roads. We are looking forward to finding a home here, with some prospects on the horizon. The Kitties are doing well, too!

Lastly, Thud is catching up with us. He’s three days behind schedule, but closing in on us quickly. Hopefully, we can find a place to call home so we can plunk him down [thud him down?] and get unpacked. With any luck, we’ll have some help unloading so my back won’t explode again [feeling strong, Will?].
